Richard Mandel, MD

Dr. Rick Mandel received his MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1977. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency, including Chief Residency, at the University Hospital of Cleveland – Case Western Reserve University in 1980. He continued his training as an Infectious Disease Fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and completed his Fellowship in 1983. He has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine since 1980, and board certified in Infectious Diseases since 1984. In 2005 he became a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America.

After a brief stint in private practice, Dr. Mandel was recruited in 1999 to join the faculty at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson where he remained until 2009. During this time, he was a clinical educator, practicing clinician, and held administrative roles as Internal Medicine Residency Program Director and Chief Medical Officer for University Physician Hospital-Kino. In 2009 he left the University as an Associate Professor of Medicine to enter a full-time infectious disease practice with the Southern Arizona Infectious Disease Specialists.

Dr. Mandel has been in Tucson since 1984. He is married to Dr. Mindy Fain and a father of three and grandfather to four.
