Dr. Craig Hurst is a board-certified plastic surgeon providing plastic and reconstructive services in Tucson and the Southwest. In his practice Dr. Hurst offers a patient centered approach. He and his staff want the patients to feel comfortable with every step of their process. “Patient satisfaction is my ultimate objective. I want you to be happy with your results. During your initial consultation we discuss treatment options. From there we formulate a plan that meets your goals.”
Dr. Hurst specializes in:
Facial rejuvenation including facelifts, neck lifts, rhinoplasties, and blepharoplasties (eyelids).
Breast surgeries (enlargements, reductions, lifts, and reconstructions)
Body contouring procedures such as abdominoplasties (tummy tucks), liposuction and arm lifts.
Dr. Hurst is also highly renowned for his pediatric facial reconstruction work, primarily in the area of cleft lip and palate and is a member of the interdisciplinary care team at the Children’s Rehabilitative Services program in Tucson.
A native of Canada, Dr. Hurst pursued his early education in the eastern part of the country. He completed his medical school training while simultaneously obtaining a master’s degree in science at Dalhousie University. Dr. Hurst then went to the nation’s capital, Ottawa, where he received full training in general surgery. This led to certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in general surgery. Plastic surgical training followed at the University of Utah which provided great diversity and experience in both reconstructive and aesthetic plastic venues. He then proceeded to Indiana University for the prestigious von Delien-Curtis fellowship in craniofacial plastic surgery. This offered highly specialized experience in all aspects of facial rejuvenation, enhancement, and reconstruction in both adults and children. Dr. Hurst received a second certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as a plastic surgeon, one of the few to be awarded such a designation. Dr. Hurst returned to his hometown to join the Division of Plastic Surgery at Dalhousie University where he was named an Assistant Professor of Surgery.
After several years of training residents and providing highly specialized care to the people of eastern Canada, Dr. Hurst was recruited to come to the University of Arizona to develop plastic surgery services. The first program he developed was the multidisciplinary breast reconstruction program which was quickly followed by the maxillofacial reconstruction program. He also partnered with his colleagues at the Children’s Rehabilitative Services clinic to develop the cleft palate care team which has been recognized by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association. Dr. Hurst practiced at the University of Arizona for six years where he served as the acting chief of plastic surgery and was promoted to the position of associate professor of surgery. He has trained and mentored many residents and students who have since gone on to pursue plastic surgery training. Dr. Hurst performed some of the most complicated and unique plastic surgical procedures in the state while at the University of Arizona. He has attracted patients internationally for his patient-centered approach and skill.
Dr. Hurst actively participates in many local and national professional societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Cleft palate-Craniofacial Association and the Arizona Society of Plastic Surgeons. Hurst is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and obtained certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 2007 which signifies the highest standard in plastic surgery training and continuing education. Dr. Hurst participates in the maintenance of certification program which provides the most advanced knowledge and safety information to plastic surgeons.
